Viltrox 33mm f/1.4 Overview
Viltrox – 33mm f/1.4 Lens for Fujifilm X-Mount
Compact and comfortable, the AF 33mm f/1.4 Z from Viltrox is a normal-length prime lens designed for Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras. The versatile normal field of view is suitable for a wide range of subjects, from portraiture to reportage, and the fast f/1.4 design excels in low-light conditions and for shallow depth of field applications. The optical design incorporates extra-low dispersion and high refractive index elements to suppress a variety of aberrations and distortion and an HD Nano multi-layer coating has also been applied to reduce flare and ghosting for greater contrast in bright and backlit conditions.
Complementing the optics, the lens’s design also incorporates an STM stepping motor that affords fast, near-silent, and accurate autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. An internal focusing design also contributes to quick performance. Additionally, the lens features an integrated micro-USB port for making future firmware updates to the lens.
Prime normal-length lens is designed for APS-C-format Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 50mm equivalent focal length. Bright f/1.4 maximum aperture suits working in low-light conditions and also affords greater control over depth of field. One extra-low dispersion element reduces color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to achieve a high degree of clarity and color accuracy. One high refractive index element helps to control spherical aberrations and reduce distortion in order to realize high sharpness and accurate rendering. HD Nano multi-layer coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress flare and ghosting for greater contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions. STM stepping motor enables quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. Additionally, an internal focusing design maintains the overall lens length during use for improved handling and quicker response. Integrated manual aperture ring for tactile exposure control; this ring also features an ‘A’ position for automated, camera-based aperture selection. Nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality. Integrated micro-USB port can be used to update the lens’s firmware. UPC: 778469116555

Great price for what it is!

I was wanting a 50mm equivalent lens for my Fujifilm xt200 camera, but the official Fuji brand was $800! This lens was much cheaper, but I think its sharpness is still very nice. Construction feels solid. The autofocus could probably be a bit faster, but bokeh looks great. I like this lens.
Great budget Lens, but not a replacement to Fuji lenses

Overall, 3-stars for image quality, but adding a star for affordability. Good: lens performs great. autofocus is accurate, great sharpness, decent colors and contrast. Even works good for video-autofocus. Everything also works well in low light thanks to the extra stop. Bad: bokeh is so busy and unflattering. Bokeh in the center and mids are prone to heavy aberration that become busy, contrasted distractions. It looks like if you boosted Clarity but only in the out-of-focus areas. Bokeh on the edges look like smudges. edge bokeh also gets warped, I assume from poor corner performance. The Fujifilm 35mm f2 has much more soft and pleasing bokeh. Recommendation: For the first-time Fuji buyer that wants their first prime to go with their kit lens. Or an amateur or hobbyist that prefers an extra stop of light over general image quality. Either way, this is a great budget option.
Pretty Good Lens

I got this lens a couple days ago. I’m pairing it with a Nikon Z fc. Took some test shots but haven’t been able to use it in a real life setting yet (Will be going to Cleveland Oktoberfest tomorrow, so…). Test shot’s lead me to believe this lens is going to be a solid performer. Seems pretty solidly built. Mostly made of metal. The Hood is metal and attaches with a couple plastic spring loaded tabs. Feels secure. I like the aperture ring a lot. No detents, but I’m fine with that. With modern digital cameras, detents on an aperture ring can be problematic with the ability to fractionally set aperture. Good resistance on the aperture ring makes it not likely to drift. The focus ring has a little less resistance than the aperture ring. I don’t feel it’s overly sloppy. I feel it’s probably not likely to drift during real world settings. I think I’m going to really Really REALLY like this lens. Gonna give it a couple months and then consider getting the Viltrox 56mm/1.4.
Beautiful images, but the AF is worthless…

I love the image quality… assuming you focus manually it’s tack-sharp and has lovely bokek, and the micro-contrast is superb. Lots of 3-D depth and character, like a Zeiss. Unfortunately the AF misses most of the time on my Fuji X-T10. Oh sure, it gets a quick lock… but it’s only locking on to the general background, not the subject in the focus box. I tried everything… forget it.. no dice. When focused manually the image is terrific however… and since that’s what really counts I may still keep it… but be advised… the AF is worthless !

Great depth of field

A very affordable prime lens for the Nikon Z series. It’ looks nice, it’s fast and sharp. But my reason for purchasing it was the 1.4 Fstop to create great pictures in low light. A good priced quality lens , you can’t go wrong with the Viltrox lenses AF 33 / AF 23 or AF 56 mm
Great lens for the price.

In using this lens rather than the more expensive Fuji 33mm f1.4, I find this lens (Viltrox), quite capable for what I need it for. So far, very sharp. I am not concerned at all about bokeh, or soft corners etc… that so many of these newer photographers are concerned with. This is a great lens, and thankful to save myself over $500.
